People who own laptop computers can experience problems from time to time. When a laptop screen freezes it can be an indication of a bigger problem. Sometimes a browser will freeze when the user is surfing the Internet. This can be a problem with the browser itself or with the site being visited. When this happens, even trying to minimize the screen will not work. The top heading section of the page will state the browser is not responding. The only way to fix this is to use the task manager in the operating system to close the program.
When a browser freezes on a website it can be an indication of a virus on the site. When this occurs it is a good idea for the computer owner to run an immediate check on the system after closing the browser window. If a virus gets into the laptops hard drive it will begin shutting down all of the systems resources so even the computers operating system will not work. If the laptop screen freezes during normal operation without being connected to the Internet, it can indicate the existence of a virus already in the hard drive.
Other times a screen can freeze up include times when the program loading does not have enough memory or is not compatible with the components in the machine. Memory is used to display images, so the more graphic intense a program is the more memory it will usually require. When there is not enough, it can result in having the system freeze up. This also happens when people try to run programs that need different components than what the machine has installed.
Video games are classic examples of programs not compatible with all systems. Games using 3D images have a lot of intense graphics. Most laptops today are made with computer rendering programs that use chipsets. A chipset is not the same as a graphics card and will use huge amounts of RAM to create the images. Many games simply will not run if they do not detect the presence of a graphics card. Although the cards are not inside the majority of laptops, they are inside some, so it is possible to find a machine that will handle the more intense 3D graphics.
When a screen freezes in the middle of a game or program, the only solution is to use the task manager to close it down. In some instances the entire system freezes so people cannot even access the manager to close programs. When this happens, the machine itself needs to be turned off and then restarted to get the system running again.
