The Consumer Product Safety Commission says about 162,600 additional batteries (54 000 and 70 000 batteries were already recalled in May 2010 and may 2009 respectively) are recalled.
The recalled lithium-ion batteries can overheat and break, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers.
Since the enlargement of recall of May 2010, HP has received 40 additional reports of overheated batteries, which broke, resulting in seven injury, an injury from smoke inhalation and 36 cases of property damage.

The table below includes all the portable model numbers associated with batteries recalled to date. The computer model number is located at the top of the service tag on the bottom of the laptop. The computers were sold in computer and electronic stores across the country, hp.com and hpshopping.com from July 2007 to July 2008 for between $500 and $3,000. The batteries were also sold separately for between $100 and $160.
Consumers should immediately remove the batteries from their laptop and contact HP to determine if their battery is included in this recall. Consumers who had already been verified their batteries and were informed that they were not included in previous announcements are asked to check again.
Recalled batteries consumers will receive a free replacement battery. After removing battery recalled their laptop, consumers can use the AC adapter to power the computer until a replacement battery arrives.
