Microsoft is publicly brandished a first version of its next operating system for the first time. The company has confirmed that the operating system is Windows 8 code name, but there is no guarantee that it will always carry this name when it is released to the public. What is guaranteed is that Windows 8 will support a wide range of devices, including the small touch screen tablets and large desktop computers.
OS combines classic elements of Windows with features borrowed from Windows Phone 7 and some elements of the entire user interface new levees for good measure.
The new startup screen replaces the Windows Start menu with a customizable screen based on the tile. Tiles Live can support notifications and view the latest information for your applications, such as incoming messages or status updates.
Internet Explorer 10 will be designed for touch screens with finger-friendly controls.
Users who want the classic experience can always access a desktop and windows explorer. But while the new user interface is optimized for touch screens you can use it with a keyboard and mouse as well.
While Microsoft says legacy Windows 7 apps will run on the new operating system, the company says that it is pushing HTML5 and JavaScript web tools for the development of applications Windows 8. This will be probably easier to design applications that work in a wide range of styles of device.
As Windows 7, the new OS will have features enabling you to align the Windows on the side of a screen or resize the Windows to make multitasking real easy.
While most mobile operating systems such as Android and iOS can run apps in the background, Windows allows you to run several programs side by side on the same screen.
Native Windows 8 apps are designed to run in full mode screen, but you can drag on the screen to switch between running applications or use gestures to resize or snap windows.
There is a keyboard on the screen that can be used in several different ways. You can stretch across the screen keyboard to type two fingers or ten fingers. Or you can use a keyboard screen with one half of each side of the screen you can hold a tablet in your hands and with your thumb type without having to stretch at Midway through a screen of Tablet inch 10 or 12.
This idea has been around for some time. Seen in devices UMPC running Windows XP a few years back.
Microsoft has clearly put a lot of work to do 8 Windows easier to use with your fingers - although I have to wonder how traditional keyboard and mouse types will take to the new start menu. It seems that you can easily disable some of the new features of the brilliant and get an experience very similar to Windows 7 well. Perhaps the Tablet UI and full screen apps will be sort of fades into the background as a Windows Media Center on existing Windows computers.
Once Microsoft provides a special edition of Windows for users who wanted media center features providing a user interface for 10 feet, you could use to watch movies in the couch instead of just before the TV. Now the Media Centre software comes with most versions of Windows users, but I suspect that many users don't even know that they are.
